"FIESTA TIME" SOCIAL
April 26, 2008
Our Social Committee did another masterful job of organization and presentation. This month, in honor of San Antonio's annual Fiesta week, the theme of our monthly gathering was Mexican. Over 30 residents attended, bringing their favorite Mexican dish for a communal pot luck. New and old residents shared food and friendship. Another successful social. THANK YOU SOCIAL COMMITTEE! ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
April 9, 2008
The 2008 membership meeting was held and attended by a sufficient number of residents, either in person or by proxy, to constitute a quorum. The proposed FY-2009 budget was overwhelmingly approved; of three board members whose two-year terms expire this month, Romain Slabbaert and Cora Miller volunteered to remain for an additional year, and Julie Folwell's position was filled by Dale Steinert. There were a few brief discussions regarding neighborhood happenings, but the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm. It was the shortest annual meetings we've had in years.

CHRISTMAS PARTY
December 15, 2007

The 2007 Christmas party was one for the record books. As a neighbor who has lived here for over 13 years, your webmaster can honestly tell you that it was the best one yet. The Social Committee, chaired by Cora Miller, did a simply outstanding job. And for the first time ever, the main course, in the case ham and brisket, was provided by the Association, with residents bringing everything from dressing to a variety of bean dishes. To document the affair, Irene Schattel took many pictures; too many to display all on this page. Three are below, but click on any one of them to see all 29. Be advised that if your Internet connection is via a dial-up modem, it may take a few minutes for all 29 pictures to load, so be patient!

HALLOWEEN-FALL FEST PARTY
October 28, 2006
Residents turned out in costumes that ran the gamut from goulish to foolish, and everyone had a great time at the first (?annual?) OHHA Halloween-Fall Fest Party. Everyone brought treats (so there were no tricks) and drinks, and no one left hungry. Even the younger set had fun dunking for apples - and laughing at the adults! Many thanks to Mary Reaves, Mary Slaebbert and Cora Miller for putting this outstanding party together.

GRASS FIRE COMES CLOSE - REAL CLOSE
December 30, 2005
A grass fire burned a good portion of the green space behind some of the homes (including your webmaster's) on Oak Hollow Dr. shortly after 1PM. As the wind was blowing the fire towards Oak Hollow Estates, it nearly claimed a few of our fences and possibly much more. By the time the Kerrville Fire Department arrived, the fire had reached the fence line and was being held back by a couple of garden hose wielding residents who had been alerted to the fire by resident Joe Hicks - THANK YOU Joe. Even then, the KFD had a difficult time getting to the fire because the units that came up Oak Hollow Dr. didn't have hoses long enough to get back to the fire, and the units that approached from the River Hill side had a difficult time getting into the green space. So the "volunteer" firemen kept up the watering until the KFD brought in a small pumper truck that was able to get to the fire.  Following are a few pictures taken by your webmaster after the KFD showed up and he was able to trade in his garden hose for a digital camera.

"TWO SCOOP" NIGHT
July 30, 2005
Linda White, our Association Secretary, took it upon herself (without telling anyone) a couple months ago to enter our Association in the Dreyer's Ice Cream "Two Scoop" contest. She had to come up with a poem that talked about our neighborhood and why we deserved to have an ice cream social at Dreyer's expense. There would be 150 winners among the thousands of entries submitted, all of whom would receive sufficient party stuff, paper wear, plastic wear, decorations, napkins, even a couple of disposable cameras...and oh  yes, ICE CREAM, ICE CREAM, ICE CREAM...enough to feed a neighborhood! Total retail value of the goodies was $350. Well, leave it to Linda....she won...that is, WE won! Thanks Linda....a great time was had by all. It was the largest turnout of any social event thusfar - 51 neighbors got together to enjoy the ice cream and each other.

ANOTHER MONTE CARLO WHIST NIGHT
May 22, 2005
Back by popular demand, a third Monte Carlo Whist Night was held and attended by three tables of neighbors who  again said "How do you play this game?" Promoters and seasoned players Tom and Julie Folwell were (again) the instructors, judges and final decision authorities on disputes. And Linda White, our erstwhile Social guru, set the night up and made sure everything went according to plan. A good time was had by all, even by those who didn't win anything. And in case anyone is interested in just how the game is played, click here for a score sheet - which pretty much self-explains how the game is played.
